Re: [AskAVet] Re: Miniature Horse Vaccination

My other 2 minis don't budge at all. but this one little darling will flip over. I can poke her with anything else and she doesn't move at all but she knows if a needle is headed her way. I think I will have to sedate her and try again. Donna

I can relate to this!!! My youngest mini "Petey" will fight terrible for any injection. At first I thought it was something I did when we first got him, but the vet who administered a rabies vacc to him last week told me he doubts it was me.

I don't know.. I do remember poking the needle and him moving away quickly, and then trying over and over to get the needle back in.

He will rear, try to pull away... total panic. If I remember correctly he did flip over when we had him gelded.

One vet told me to use a hoof pick and poke him whenever I think of it. That vet told me that 3 years ago...

this is the first time I remembered that suggestion ;)

Last year she cut up but nothing like this time. We have 7 horses and none of the others give us trouble. I am very scared to traumatize her worse or get someone hurt. She actually tries to flip over. Anyone have any tips, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, Donna PS, Normally she is very, very gentile.
