RE: [AskAVet] Eye injury...treating but concerned

This needs to be evaluated again. My grand daughter's pony had an eye injury last spring and it was complicated by a fungal infection. It was treated for over 2 months before it resolved. They were just at the point of considering a surgical procedure. There are equine ophthalmologists out there and you might want to find one. The one who treated the pony was actually a human ophthalmologist who worked with the vet. They would take the pony in the trailer to her office parking lot and she'd do there work right there, in her heels!

Subject: [AskAVet] Eye injury...treating but concerned

My son's horse injured his eye a week ago. I found it on Wednesday night, had him to the vet on Thursday morning. Treated with bute, atropine, and antibiotic ointment. He was very difficult to treat so had to go back to the vet on Friday for sedative, which we had to use to treat it until Sunday, when he finally gave up.

Has been in a stall the entire time (except last night - he escaped and went for a 15 minute run in the dark).

Vet thought it was looking better on Friday.

Stopped atropine on Sunday night. Continuing antibiotic ointment 3x daily (and we've been pretty good about getting it in there 3 times a day. Have missed a couple, but not much). Pupil is still dilated as of tonight and has that slight bluish hue to it.

I am a bit concerned.

Any advice? Is this normal or do I need to take him back in?
