Well.................
Many will not agree with my thoughts on things I am sure. If you have and easy keep. Grass and Minerals and salt will be fine with plenty of fresh water.
I grab a COMPLETE Senior. I do use Senior Purina. My reasoning is they get plenty off the fields and I am only really using it to bring the horses in and out to get them to eat their wormer or other meds. I do use Red Cell as well.
I grain more in the winter NOT in the spring or summer. I do have flax seed which I grind up if I feel they need it and I do use black oiled sunflower seeds if the horse needs the fats.
I have used Dengie over the years for older or with tooth issues and have used shredded beet pulp when cheaper to give the horses that don't need the grains something to chew on at feed time. I always wet down with warm water.
I use the Red Cell in the winter when stored hay is their primary diet.
I don't feed the recommended grain amount for this reason salt and mineral blocks are always around. I also have gotten the Equimin that Southern States sells. Only some of them are interested in it.
I feel that if they want or need it is there to lick or chew on. That is has lasted several weeks with them hardly touching it tells me they are getting enough out of the pastures. The block is in the water tank area.
I have them in during the day in summers and out at night with the reverse schedule in winter. I use less fly spray that way.
