I have a hen with bumblefoot which is an infection in the foot.
I have done this twice...used 2 types of anti bacterial salve with has expired...which might be the cause of the foot swelling up again.
Treatment is to open the foot through the bottom and remove the core and any infection by squeezing or removing with a tweezers.
