[AskAVet] Severe wounds what to use

I have a client whose horse the other day got caught up in barbed wire and they had to cut her out of it. From my understanding the wounds are on her legs. The vet has wrapped her legs and is using some type of antibiotic ointment on it. My client contacted me because she knows I usually have little tricks up my sleeve for different types of stuff. I suggested to her of using lime to heal the wounds as well as to help prevent any proud flesh. However I did some research on the net and am getting conflicting info about using Lime. Some say use it while others say don't because it is to caustic. What are other peoples thoughts on this? I read there are different types of limes and one needs to get a certain one. What type is the one that needs to be gotten?

All I know is one of my horses sliced his knee open many years ago and the wound was about a 2" deep wound. I immediately started using lime on it and it healed up in no time.

THanks
Kim
