Not always, but typically a pot bellied youngster is caused by insufficient protein in the diet. Putting him on an age appropriate feed should help him. [Age appropriate = growth or foal feed. Triple Crown growth formula is a good one. I don't use it myself, but many out there like Purina Equine Jr (its a complete feed, so its fed in significant quantities). A ration balancer might also be a good choice.] Also be sure the hay is good quality, and not too coarse.
As you have already address possible worm burden, I won't say anything about that.
