Re: [AskAVet] need advise about hoof condition

I'm needing some good experienced advise about keeping my trail riding mare's hoofs in good condition. I'm getting lots of different advice locally in person, but I hoped to get more hands on/things that actually worked advise from this group. We have had a LOT of rain this year and my farrier says that has been very bad on their hoofs...it has actually made them more brittle and hard keeping the shoes on and their hoof walls have been more "crumbly" at the nail holes... Her rear feet are doing pretty good...my problem seems to be mainly with the front feet.
I've tried Hoof flex and I've tried hoof sealer...I know these two are at different ends of the spectrum....what about nutrient additives ? I hear Biotin mentioned alot....is this the magic answer ?
any help will be greatly appreciated...this is the first year I've actually had a problem with her feet. I keep her shod March through November, and then she is barefoot (with proper trimming) during the winter while out in the field and I'm not riding during the "off months of late Dec. through February.
thanks !!!
Janet in West KY
