My cat had a similar thing happen, all lethargic, hardly eating, distancing herself from the other cats. I had not bathed her, though.
I just took her to vet, had a blood test and he put some of that flea treatment on back of neck (the spot on type). He thought as she was old, maybe she had leukaemia or her kidneys going.
But, removed the fleas and she came good. She was anaemic, and I believe looking back, it was simply a flea infestation, as she regained all the weight she lost (there was not much of her left) and is fighting fit again, well as fit as a 14 year old cat that has had a rough life can be.
So yeah fleas can do nasty stuff. Act fast. Mine came good in no time, but went downhill very quickly in no time, too, and I almost lost her to fleas.

He was full of fleas so we washed him with dog shampoo for fleas and ticks to try and get these fleas off of him. Well, now he's acting like he's very lethargic, won't get up to move unless he has to. I think he's severely animic and may have an infection. What can I do to help my cat? Can I give him a shot of Procaine G Penicillin? If so how much should I give him and how would I give it? SubQ or intermuscular? Is there anything that I could give him for his anemia? Thank you for any help you can give me. I really appreciate it. God Bless You All.
